All West Orchestra auditions are this weekend and I just want to say good luck to all those who are auditioning! Here are some audition tips: Get plenty of rest the night before and make sure to eat a good breakfast the morning of the audition. Warm up when you get there, but don’t over practice and make yourself nervous. Take headphones and listen to music rather than listening to other people practicing. Eat a banana, it can help with nerves. Once you get in to the audition just try to show the judges how much you love the music! Good luck students!
A month of inspiration!

I just got back to Memphis after spending a month traveling and working. I spent a wonderful week in Salt Lake City, Utah doing more Suzuki training which I always find refreshing. Made some new friends and learned a lot more about teaching! Then I got to spend a couple of weeks with my mom in Texas before teaching at the most fun Suzuki camp: DFW WOW! I got to work with a great bunch of students and teachers. Now that I’m back in Memphis it’s time to start getting organized for the Fall. If you or someone you know wants to take cello lessons, now is the time to sign up and get your pick of lesson times! Remember music lessons are more than learning an instrument, they are also about learning valuable life skills. I accept all ages from 3 and up!

Welcome to the website for the cello studio of Ruth Valente Burgess! I offer cello lessons in the Suzuki method and traditional lessons in the Memphis area. Music lessons are more than a way to learn an instrument. They teach your child skills that will stay with them throughout their life. Skills like responsibility, time management, presentation, confidence, goal setting and perseverance. I teach children starting as young as 3 years old and I also teach adults.
